Real Beauty, a nine-year-old company located at Crane Park North, St. Philip, produces its own line of nail, lash and hair products and offers makeup and pedicure services. The company, owned and operated by Leah Husbands, also has an online store that retails skincare products and beauty tools. Husbands, a former student of Louis Lynch Secondary, also caters to entrepreneurs, providing motivational and coaching services.

The businesswoman said she decided to be an entrepreneur because it was always a life goal. “As a teenager I would develop ideas, write them in a journal, which is a practice I continued. I mixed my own hair oils and was into beauty. I decided while I was pursuing my degree at Cave Hill to do the Freelance Makeup Artistry course in New York, which thoroughly introduced me to makeup and gave me the opportunity to work backstage at New York Fashion Week.

This experience boosted my confidence to formally open my business as a Makeup Artist and to create my own line of beauty products,” she said.

Husbands, who has completed The Private Secretary’s Diploma at the Barbados Community College and has a Social Sciences Degree from UWI, Cave Hill, in addition to the Makeup Artistry Certificate, said the New York experience provided the opportunity to work in the New York fashion industry.

“One of the highlights of my business was the opportunity to work for Black Entertainment Television on one of their TV shows How to Rock Kicks where I did makeup for a few male models who are now internationally renowned in the fashion industry,” she said.

Husbands said customer service is important to Real Beauty, which is why she decided to personally build her website ensuring that it is customer friendly.

“My website makes it easy for customers to find, view, buy, and book online.

Real Beauty prides itself on listening, collaborating, and supporting fellow beauty professionals and entrepreneurs. My market research identified a need for quality acrylic brushes at a reasonable price for nail technicians. The result led to an expansion of Real Beauty products to meet that need.

I would like to thank Jehovah, my family, loved ones and customers for their continued support,” Husbands remarked.

Reflecting on her journey over the past nine years as a business owner, she said one of the things entrepreneurship has taught her is resilience and determination in the face of challenges.

Husbands encourages interested persons to visit her website www.realbeautybds. com for further information on her products and services.
