Nalicia Cozier’s, Irish bred, six-year-old horse So Suave made an extraordinary winning debut to local racing scoring by two and a half lengths in the Coolmore Home of Champion stakes on Saturday under champion jockey Patrick Husbands.

That performance has signaled Husband’s intention as early favorite for the Saturday, March 4th Sandy Lane Gold Cup.

Coming off two wins in his last two starts at Woodbine race track in Toronto Canada, So Suave stalked the slow pace in fourth position set by last year’s Coolmore stakes runnerup Joqular with fractions 26.2 for the first two furlongs and 50.1 for the first four furlongs as Bodie Tap tracked Joqular in second in the early stages.

A similar scene to last year’s race with Joqular on the lead and Bodie Tap tracking as Patrick Husbands started to hand ride So Suave at the two-furlong marker and Bodie Tap with Jalon Samuel closing on leader Joqular as the field turned into the home straight in the $50,000 1800-meter event.

So Suave showed an electrifying burst of speed hitting the lead with Patrick Husbands who had not ridden in Barbados since 2018.

Vividly a winner on her debut race in Barbados last year ran on for second in this her second start in Barbados as race fans paid close attention as second place horses of the 2019 and 2020 Coolmore stakes went on to win the Gold Cup which has not ran for the last two years due to Covid 19.

Joqular was not disgraced losing her first race in three races, finished first place behind her stablemate in 3rd while Bodie Tap faltered to 4th.The winning time was 151.0.

Winning trainer Jean Marc Cozier was enjoying his 2nd Coolmore stakes victory wining it with Lion Country in 2004 and his wife Nalicia it was her first win in the Coolmore as an owner.

Winning jockey Patrick Husbands was tasting victory for just the 2nd time in the Coolmore since 1999 winning on Muirfield Way. Payments were Forecast $7.25 and Trifecta $19.25. Next race day will Saturday, February 4th.
